How do religiousness and cultural orientations protect college students from hazardous alcohol use?

Our newest publication, “Religiousness and acculturation as moderators of the association linking acculturative stress to levels of hazardous alcohol use in college students,” reports findings from over 1000 college students of Hispanic and Asian American backgrounds. We found that whereas acculturative stress predicted hazardous alcohol use by way of college students’ alcohol expectations and valuations, religiousness and cultural orientations served as protective factors. Specifically, intrinsic religiousness and religious salience were distinct protective factors in these relations. Read the article here.
