Do self-reported parent-offspring relationships influence college students’ mental health, or vice versa?

Our latest study published in the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry is now available online. In this study, “Rethinking the acculturation gap-distress theory among Asian Americans: Testing bidirectional indirect relations,” we examined how Asian American college students’ mental health statuses may shape their perceived relationships with their immigrant parents, including their self-rated degree of acculturation discrepancies and intensity of intergenerational cultural conflict. Findings suggest the critical need to rethink the acculturation gap-distress theory with this population.
