ADAPT had a great time presenting our latest research studies and connecting with other psychologists and researchers at the 2019 annual convention of the American Psychological Association held in Chicago.
Second-year Ph.D. student, Savannah Pham, presented findings from her first-year research paper examining the associations among acculturation and bicultural orientations, and alcohol involvement among Asian Americans. She also co-presented with Dr. Lui a qualitative study examining individual and group differences in perceptions of and attitudes toward racial microaggression. Author of this poster also included an alumna, Shalanda Berkley.
Recent alumna, Kathryn Curtis, presented findings from her honors thesis under Dr. Lui’s mentorship. Her results showed initial evidence supporting the roles of negative meta-emotions in disordered eating behaviors by way of experiential avoidance. Katy’s first-authored poster received a national award as one of four best poster presentations from Psi Chi honors society members.
Dr. Lui also presented with colleagues a poster on the measurement equivalence of the facet structure of the Five Factor Model of personality across Euro and Asian Americans. The poster was selected as the best poster presentation by a professional member in the Society of Clinical Psychology. The paper also was accepted for publication in Assessment just a day prior to the poster presentation! Congrats, team!
Of course, in addition to working hard, the team had a good time enjoying what Chicago has to offer–including deep dish pizza!
