Sound Choice Anesthesia Partnership

This collective partnership was formed separately from UW medicine to meet the needs of our Puget Sound community. This partnership is not a business entity.

Wendy Carlyle, M.D.

About me

As a physician anesthesiologist with many years of experience, I enjoy providing high quality, personalized care to my patients during their most vulnerable moments. I have provided anesthesia, with a focus in regional anesthesia, at Swedish Medical Center, Virginia Mason Medical Center and St Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma. As a mother of four children, a particular passion of mine is providing exceptional care for women. In addition, my scope of practice includes outpatient, orthopedic, GYN, urology, fertility, plastic and general surgery.

I’ve enjoyed physician leadership and have served as both Chief of Staff and Chief of Anesthesiology at Swedish Medical Center – Ballard Campus.

 Tonya Miller, M.D.

About me

I am a physician anesthesiologist graduate of both the University of Washington Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine residency program in 2004 and Boston Children’s Hospital Pediatric Anesthesiology fellowship program in 2005. I have worked at Boston Children’s over 15 years, caring for all types, acuity, and ages of patients. I have a breadth of experience from various endeavors and pursuits inside and outside of a large academic setting.

As Assistant professor of Anesthesiology, Harvard Medical School and Senior Associate in Perioperative Anesthesia at Boston Children’s, my interests were focused on airway management, quality of care and patient safety. I was the PI of the multi-center PANDA study looking into effects of anesthesia on the developing brain with multiple publications including a landmark JAMA article. I have been a mentor and teacher to residents, fellows, CRNAs and non anesthesia health care personnel.

Outside of the large academic anesthesia practice, I have had the privilege to participate in several medical mission trips, practiced anesthesia for six months in Australia, and was a vaccination clinic volunteer during the COVID pandemic. I continue to enjoy finding new ways to explore opportunities in Anesthesia. The best parts of my job are the people I serve and the people I meet while doing so.

About me

I’ve been a practicing physician anesthesiologist since finishing anesthesiology residency at Virginia Mason Medical Center in 2008.  For fifteen years I was an associate and then partner at Physicians Anesthesia Service, which joined USAP in 2017.  During my tenure I served in several leadership roles including Chief of Anesthesiology at the Swedish Orthopedic Institute and Chief of Anesthesiology and Medical Director at Swedish Medical Center, Ballard.  I am experienced in inpatient and ambulatory surgery, with a particular expertise in regional and orthopedic anesthesia.

In March of 2023 I became an independent Locums and per diem anesthesiologist, working in several West Coast states, but primarily in the Greater Puget Sound Area. In September of 2024, I will join the RMA team in Bellevue.

When not at work, I maximize my time with my two daughters (one studying at St. Andrews University in Scotland; the other in 4th grade here in Seattle); my husband, Matthew; and our cat, Oscar.

About me

I am a physician anesthesiologist with most of my career spent here in the Seattle / Greater Puget Sound Region. Since completing my Anesthesiology Residency at the University of Washington in 2007 – and gaining Board Certification in 2008 – I have practiced in a diverse set of locations – large urban tertiary referral centers, metro-area community hospitals, stand-alone ambulatory centers, and even small town /rural hospitals.

Most of my career was spent in Seattle at Swedish-Providence Hospitals. But in 2022, after a 4 month sabbatical with my family (my wife still teaches and practices surgery/critical care medicine at Swedish), I have broadened my reach, and have taken on clinical roles at other sites from Olympia up to Kirkland.

I have had the privilege of maintaining a broad clinical practice, providing anesthesia services for a wide range of specialties: obstetrics, fertility medicine, regional & orthopaedics, vascular and ambulatory surgery. I completed my American Board of Anesthesiology re-certification program in 2018, and participate in the MOCA program for continuing education and relevance in the field.
