A safety driver will be behind the wheel at all times to monitor the automated features and drive the vehicle anytime those features are not in use. These drivers are specially trained members of the research team with years of experience using these technologies. A second research team member will be on board to assist with study subjects. The vehicle is being outfitted by Illinois-based company AutonomouStuff, and the high definition road mapping done by Wisconsin-based Mandli Communications.
