Join LEAP as an Undergraduate Research Assistant (499)

UW students can earn academic credit for working in a lab (e.g. SPHSC 499, PSYCH 499, NEUSCI 499), upon permission. Undergraduate Research Assistants (RAs) in the Lab for Early Auditory Perception are an important part of our team and typically work on an independent thesis project with Dr. Zhao and/or assist with behavioral data coding and entry. RAs are also encouraged to attend weekly lab meetings at I-LABS to engage in open discussion of ongoing projects in the lab and read current literature in the field(s) of speech and hearing sciences, linguistics, developmental psychology, and neuroscience.

Lab Criteria for Incoming 499 Students:

  • Commitment to at least 3 consecutive quarters and 2 credits-worth of work per week
    • 3 credits = 9 hours/week, 2 credits = 6 hours/week, 1 credit = 3 hours/week
  • Interest in pursuing an independent research project related to our research
  • Completed, enrolled, or willing to enroll in CSE 160 prior to joining the lab
  • Excited about research, early development, music, and learning technical skills!

Interested UW students who meet the above criteria are welcome to reach out to Dr. Zhao (zhaotc@uw) prior to the start of each quarter. Please include your CV/resume, unofficial transcript, and a brief statement of interest. We will review students on a rolling basis depending on student fit and current needs of the lab.

For any questions, please email the lab at babyleap@uw.edu.
