This summer the Black Adult Resiliency Study started off strong, with the official launch of data collection in Seattle and Dallas. The community response has been incredible, with over 1,000 screeners completed, bringing us closer to understanding how Black adults navigate adversity and build resilience. These initial findings will play a crucial role in shaping our future research and outreach efforts as we continue to expand the study.
A highlight of the season was Dr. Lui’s presentation at the 2024 APA conference, titled “Psychological Effects of Racial Discrimination: Lessons from Virtual Reality Experimentation.” VR simulations of racial discrimination allow us to study real-time psychological responses.
Beyond research, we met with the community at night markers, Black Wall Street, Juneteenth, and more events throughout Seattle. Being a part of these events allowed our team to connect directly with neighbors, share the study’s goals, and listen to their experiences on Black mental health. We’re excited to keep building on this momentum as we look ahead to future phases of the study into the fall quarter. Stay tuned for more updates!
