What is this study about?
- The goal of the study is to support parents accessing services in the community including rehabilitation therapies and school resources, and to educate them about TBI’s and their treatments. All parent participants will receive one in-person education session and written educational materials. Parents will be assigned randomly to receive our program (consisting of 3 months of patient navigator support in addition to their usual care), or to continue follow-up as usual.
The study patient navigator is a person who helps families coordinate care in the community, offers support in accessing resources, and educates families throughout the recovery process. |
What happens in the study?
- All parents will receive relevant education materials in English and/or Spanish developed specifically for Hispanic/Latinx families.
- All parents will answer interviews about their child’s health and wellbeing at baseline (0), 3, 6, and 12 months after the injury.
- Parents assigned to the intervention will receive additional support from a bilingual and bicultural patient navigator in the community.
