PROFESSOR Director of the Washington National Primate Research Center (WaNPRC)
RESEARCH Dr. Basso studied Neuroscience at Stony Brook University in NY and was a post-doctoral fellow at the National Eye Institute, NIH. After serving as a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin Madison, she moved to UCLA and was then recruited to the University of Washington to serve as Director of the Washington National Primate Research Center (WaNPRC). The work performed in Dr. Basso’s laboratory is aimed at unravelling the neuronal circuits of decision-making in health and disease. Her work spans multiple species and employs multiple technologies designed to understand how memory and sensory information are combined to give rise to our decisions and choices of action.
RECENT PUBLICATIONS Optogenetic activation of the inhibotory nigro-collicular circuit evokes contralateral orienting movements in mice. Toward next-generation primate neuroscience: A collaboration-based strategic plan for integrative neuroimaging. Implicit and explicit learning of Bayesian priors differently impacts bias during perceptual decision-making. Causal role for the primate superior colliculus in the computation of evidence for perceptual decisions. Unraveling circuits of visual perception and cognition through the superior colliculus.
