ACTING INSTRUCTOR Wong Lab (Wong Lab Website)
RESEARCH My current research seeks to identify the synaptic motifs of mammalian retinal circuits encoding specific visual features, and uncover the developmental mechanisms that generate these synaptic connectivity patterns. I use both light and electron microscopy, in particular, correlated fluorescence imaging and serial block-face scanning electron microscopy, to reveal the circuit patterns of physiologically and anatomically identified pre- and post-synaptic cell types in the mouse retina. I am currently investigating the synaptic arrangements associated with signal diversification from a single type of presynaptic neuron to its multiple postsynaptic partner types. I am also collaborating on an NIH SBIR project using deep learning tools to develop 3D reconstructions of neuronal connections in retinal volumes obtained from serial electron microscopy.
