Paid Data Collection Opportunity with the Urban Freight Lab in Early Feb

With funding from the Department of Energy, UW’s Urban Freight Lab in the Supply Chain Transportation and Logistics Center is conducting a study of common carrier lockers at several locations in Belltown. The lockers will serve as common drop-off points for a number of carriers including FedEx, UPS, and Amazon. We aim to understand how this system can reduce emissions and increase the efficiency of deliveries in congested urban areas. This effort is part of a three-year project on technology integration for freight and commercial vehicle efficiency.
UW’s Urban Freight Lab has an immediate, temporary opportunity for students to assist with a data collection effort in Belltown from Feb. 1-5 and Feb. 8-12. Shifts are from 8:30 am to 11:30 am and 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. Pay is $20 per hour.
This will involve standing on the sidewalk and observing commercial vehicle activity. Data collectors will record times, location of parking events, descriptions of goods, and other observations about loading / unloading behavior. Data collectors should be prepared to work in a variety of weather conditions (especially rain).
The Freight Lab is aware of the ongoing COVID-19 situation, and believe that there will be little or no health risk during this work. Data collectors will stand outside at all times and avoid contact with other people. They will provide personal protective equipment (mask, gloves, hand sanitizer) upon request.
Shifts will be available for sign-up on a first-come/first-served basis (once your work eligibility is approved and you are set up in the UW payment system), and additional training will be available. If interested, please complete the short survey here.
