2022 NHERI Research Experience for Undergraduates – Summer Program is now accepting applications

NHERI Research Experience for Undergraduates  – Program Information

Hands-on summer research for undergraduates. The NHERI REU Summer Program provides research opportunities at the ten NHERI multi-hazard engineering and interdisciplinary research sites during a 10-week summer research program. The NHERI REU program is dedicated to helping undergraduate college students experience multi-hazard engineering as well as reconnaissance, cyberinfrastructure, data management, and simulation research. Hands-on, research-based projects introduce participants to a network of engineers, and students who work toward mitigating natural hazards and understanding the impact of natural hazards on society.

U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are enrolled undergraduate students may apply for the summer program.

Applications are due on Feb 4, 2022: https://www.designsafe-ci.org/learning-center/reu/

REU participants receive:

  • Travel funds to and from the research facility.
  • Housing subsidy to help with living expenses.
  • Research stipend for summer work.
  • Research and career experience alongside faculty mentors.
  • Travel funds to and from the NHERI REU site to present a research project and a chance to network with engineering researchers, scientists, and natural hazards experts.

Applications now open for 2022 NHERI REU summer program

The NHERI Research Experiences for Undergraduates program (REU) is a national-class summer research program designed for high-achieving college students seeking to build research skills and enhance their academic resume.

Participants spend 10 weeks at one of NHERI’s university-based facilities, doing hands-on research in areas such as earthquake engineering, wind engineering, tsunami engineering, multihazard engineering, cyber-physical experimentation, natural hazards reconnaissance, cyberinfrastructure and data management, and natural hazards simulation.

Among the benefits of the NHERI REU program:

  • Travel funds to and from the research facility
  • Housing subsidy to help with living expenses
  • Research stipend for summer work
  • Research and career experience alongside faculty mentors
