Soil Conservationist Job Opening

USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) helps America’s farmers and ranchers conserve the nation’s soil, water, air, and other natural resources. There is currently one vacancy in Avondale, Arizona, to serve as a Soil Conservationist performing a variety of duties which assist the District Conservationist in developing and carrying out a coordinated natural resources conservation program that is tailored to customers’ needs and meets USDA and NRCS requirements. The assignments involve applying conservation techniques common to the area; and preparing conservation plans for individual land units for which objectives are specific and conservation measures are known to be responsive to the physical land features of the area.

Duties

  • Works with farmers and other landowners to develop conventional conservation plans addressing resource concerns
  • Provides technical assistance to farmers and ranchers about Farm Bill conservation programs.
  • Performs annual contract reviews on all assigned contracts to ensure contract schedules are followed and that practices are being maintained according to NRCS standards and specifications.
  • Promotes and maintains liaisons with Federal, state, and local agencies and groups to carry out conservation management activities.

Key Requirements

  • US Citizenship is required
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959
  • A 1-year probationary period is required
