The Daily is hiring for Autumn 2019

If you’re interested in contributing to UW’s student-run newspaper, The Daily, see below for more information:
_________________________________________________________________________

The Daily is a completely student-run paper. All writers, photographers, designers, illustrators, and editors who contribute to the paper are UW students. The paper provides a professional learning environment for aspiring journalists, as well as students interested in building writing skills and learning more about the UW community. The Daily also provides unique opportunities and privileges to speak with experts and professionals in nearly every industry, including doctors and researchers at UW Medicine and across Seattle, business leaders and elected officials, and artists and authors that come to the UW. It is not affiliated with the UW Communications Department and has contributors from a variety of majors on campus. The Daily tries to host a diverse staff from a range of majors and backgrounds, so we encourage all interested students to apply. No previous journalism or professional writing experience is required to apply. (The Daily’s development class is not apart of the UW’s course registrar and is not offered for credit. The class is only for The Daily’s hiring purposes). Prospective writers are required to attend twice-weekly meetings that will be taught by the development editor, various other section editors at The Daily, and journalism professionals. In these classes, prospective writers will learn the basics of reporting, how the newsroom works, and journalism ethics.

The Daily of the UW’s fall quarter application is live and accessible here. The application deadline is Friday, September 27, by 11:59pm. If you have any questions about class requirements or the application, feel free to email Devon at development@dailyuw.com. If you are interested in becoming a photographer or illustrator for The Daily, find information on our site here.
