TOWN HALL: (Social) Justice, CEE, and Donuts!

Hello CEE,

As we prepare for this Wednesday’s JEDI Town Hall, today we are asking our community:

What is (Social) Justice and why is it important?

(Social) Justice can be defined as the pursuit of a just, equitable, diverse, and inclusive society in which every individual is deserving of the same rights and opportunities, whether educational, political, economic, and/or social. It also seeks to protect and expand these rights; striving to build communities whose foundations are fairness and justice. To engage in social justice means to be driven by steadfast love and kindness while boldly acting to correct historic and often systematic oppression in any way, shape, or form.

Our CEE community is committed to building a Just, Equitable, Diverse, and Inclusive (JEDI) Civil & Environmental Engineering Department at the University of Washington, Seattle. For more information on our department’s vision, commitment, and on-going efforts within the JEDI space, we encourage you to visit our official website: https://www.ce.washington.edu/JEDI

TOWN HALL + DONUTS!!!

We also wanted to remind you that our CEE JEDI Town Hall is taking place virtually this coming Wednesday, May 11th, from 4:00pm – 5:00pm. A table with free Coffee + Donuts will be set up between 9:00am-12:00pm just around the seating area of More Hall’s main entrance. There you’ll get to meet some members of CEE’s Graduate Student Advisory Board (GSAB) and ask any questions you might have about the Town Hall and/or related matters.

As we continue to work to improve our beautiful CEE community, we wanted to thank you for your engagement and commitment to our concrete-loving, road-planning, environment-supporting, water-managing family.

See you all at the Town Hall!
