Peña Graduate Fellowship Opportunity

The Graduate Opportunities and Minority Achievement Program (GO-MAP), in partnership with the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity (OMA&D), is excited to announce the creation of the Alfonso Carlos Peña Graduate Fellowship!

The Peña Graduate Fellowship was established to provide support to graduate students engaged in research and/or activities related to wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ (Intellectual House).

Graduate Student Eligibility:

  • Admitted and enrolled full-time master’s or doctoral program starting Autumn 2019 (10+ credits a quarter)
  • Demonstrated financial need (FAFSA, WAFSA, or equivalent)
  • US citizen, DACAmented, undocumented, or hold permanent resident status
  • Tribal enrollment verification or proof of lineage for American Indian and Alaska Native students
  • Students are ineligible if they hold an F1 or J1 visa or will be enrolled in a foreign study, study abroad, or international program or exchange
  • Students in fee-based programs are only eligible for the $20,000 stipend na dGAIP coverage

More Info:

  • Awardees must have financial need and an interest in and a commitment to addressing social and environmental issues impacting American Indian, Alaska Native, and/or other indigenous communities.
  • This award is a one year/three quarter award with an annual stipend of $20,000, tuition and fees, and GAIP coverage. Departments must provide a match of comparable funding for the second year of graduate studies. For the 2019-2020 academic year, funding will be awarded Winter, Spring, and Summer quarters.

Nominations must be made by the department in the MyGrad awards management system. Please login to nominate a student, by Monday, December 2nd, 2019 at 11:59 PM PST.

  • Letter of nomination from Department Chair or GPC describing how the graduate student meets the eligibility for the Peña Graduate Fellowship, the department’s plan for the second year of funding, and how the department will provide support (outside of funding) to the student throughout their graduate studies at the University of Washington.

Earthquake Engineering Research Institute Meeting 10-23

The Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) University of Washington Student Chapter is excited to announce our first meeting for this year! The meeting will discuss what the EERI student chapter is and their goals for this coming year and future years.  Graduate students, undergraduate students, Civil Engineering majors, and non Civil Engineering majors are all welcome!

Graduate Fellowships in Water Infrastructure (GAANN) – Marquette University

The Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering Department at Marquette University has 5 Fellowships available for people interested in studying for a Ph.D. through the Department of Education Graduate Assistance in Areas of national Need (GAANN) program. Applicants who demonstrate financial need and intend to pursue teaching and research careers in Water Infrastructure are invited to apply. Women and others from underrepresented groups in STEM disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply. GAANN fellows receive a competitive stipend and funding to cover tuition costs for up to 5 years. Fellows must be U.S. citizens or a National, or permanent resident of the U.S. or U.S. territories. The fellows will receive training and experience in both teaching and research related to wastewater, drinking water and stormwater management technologies. Hertz Fellowship Application

The Hertz Foundation is offering 5 year graduate fellowships for qualified students. The fellowships offer you:

  • Full tuition equivalent for up to five years
  • $34,000 per academic year stipend
  • Additional stipend if coordinated with other major fellowships
  • $5,000 annual dependent childcare stipend
  • Over 40 currently participating U.S. research universities
  • Programs and networking offered as part of a lifelong Hertz Community

Fields of interest include astrophysics, quantitative biology, biotech, chemistry, computer science, earth science, engineering, materials science, mathematics, physics and statistics.

Successful candidates are:

Structural Engineers Foundation (SEF) undergraduate and graduate student scholarship

Dear Engineering Faculty Members,

The Structural Engineers Foundation (SEF) is currently accepting applications for the upcoming academic year for undergraduate and graduate students studying structural engineering.   Applicants will be evaluated on scholarship, leadership, and academic involvement.  Up to four scholarships will be awarded, each in the amount of $2,500.  One of the four scholarships, the Max Zar scholarship, will be awarded to students enrolled in a school in Illinois. The Rubinos-Mesia scholarship is awarded to a student of Hispanic descent.

We are distributing the scholarship announcements via email only and sending the application announcements only to a select group of universities.  Please make sure your outstanding engineering students are aware of this program.

The Scholarship Information & Application form includes eligibility requirements and application guidelines and can be downloaded and submitted electronically.  This information is also available on our website. Scholarship applications must be received by Monday, April 29, 2019.  Winners will be notified by June 3, 2019.

GAANN PhD Fellowships in Advanced Infrastructure Systems-Carnegie Mellon University

CMU CEE PhD GAANN Fellowships Available for Advanced Infrastructure Systems for Transportation and Water

We are recruiting applicants for a new interdisciplinary PhD Fellowship program in Advanced Infrastructure Systems (AIS) sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education through the Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) program. Our AIS graduate program brings advancements in technology in computing, sensing, data analytics, and automation technology into the design, construction, operation, and management of infrastructure.

Our GAANN PhD Fellowship program will train a cohort of U.S. PhD students to be leaders in developing, deploying and integrating advanced technologies with the goal of modernizing U.S. transportation and water infrastructure in innovative ways. We define transportation and water infrastructure broadly, which includes but is not limited to the following infrastructure systems: roadways, bridges, tunnels, buildings, pipelines, drinking water systems, wastewater and stormwater systems, as well as traffic and water quality management.

We seek applicants with a range of engineering and science backgrounds, at either the BS or MS level, to be part of the next generation of technology leaders in civil and environmental engineering.

Fellows will receive a full research assistantship including tuition and an annual stipend of up to $34,000. In addition, our GAANN fellowship program will provide professional development opportunities including engagement with companies and researchers in smart-cities technology from across the U.S., and supervised teaching training and experience.
