I am currently a professor emeritus at the University of Washington, which means I am formally retired (as of 2017) but remain professionally active. My academic career spanned five decades, including graduate school at the University of Wisconsin (1967-72) and faculty appointments at Duke (1972-81), Cornell (1981-87), the University of Washington (1987-2017). This website is primarily a record of my research, teaching, and service during those years with occasional updates. The picture above was taken at a dinner with some of my UW graduate students in the early 2000s. It is meant to symbolize all of the students, postdocs, and colleagues with whom I have had the pleasure of working over my career. As a teacher, I was taught.
