COVID-19 Safety

The Chatterjee Lab COVID-19 Safety Plan

The Chatterjee Lab has set up its own specific safety protocols within the Dept. of Chemistry’s safety guidelines in order to continue research during the COVID-19 pandemic. These are in addition to the University of Washington EH&S guidelines for students and employees, UW’s COVID-19 Safe Start (currently Phase 2), as well as Washington State Department of Health and the Washington State Coronavirus Response. Below is a brief of our safety protocols.

Before coming to lab:

  • Research is currently conducted in morning and afternoon/evening shifts. Double check the shift you are scheduled for before coming in.
  • Assess yourself for any COVID-19 symptoms and complete the UW employee’s working on-site attestation found in Workday.

While in lab:

  • Bagley Hall, Chemistry Building, and Chemistry Library all remain locked, and key(card) access is required. Hand sanitization stations are set up at each entrance and should be used upon entering the buildings.
  • Wash your hands upon entering and leaving lab spaces or use an appropriate hand sanitizer.
  • Face masks/coverings are required while in the building, while in the lab spaces, and outdoors when physical distancing of 6-feet cannot be maintained.
  • Maintain a 6-feet distance between persons.
  • Sanitize your work areas before and after use with 70 % EtOH.
  • For any shared department spaces and instrument facilities, please refer to the Chemistry Dept. Safety Guidelines for specific protocols.

Testing for Sars-CoV-2:

Testing for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, can be done by PCR method for active infections through Hall Health Center. Free testing is also available through the City of Seattle’s walk-up and drive-in testing sites.

Graduate students and other researchers should contact the Graduate Appointee Insurance Program or their respective insurance providers for information on coverage.
