Application Process

Please note: The Dalton Fellowship program is currently on hiatus.

The selection process consists of two stages:

Stage 1: Initial Dalton Fellowship nomination

Nominations of the Dalton Postdoctoral Fellows will be accepted from department chairs, faculty advisors, professors, or research scientists who can comment on the scientific accomplishments and future potential of the candidate. Current or emeritus faculty members and research scientists at the University of Washington cannot serve as the nominators.

Nominator:

  • Email a letter of nomination to initiate the application.
  • The nomination letter must include:
    • Nominee’s full name and an active email address;
    • Nominator’s letter addressing the candidate’s potential as a future leader in the chemical sciences.

Nominee:

    • A coversheet including:
      • Full contact information (e.g., full name, mailing address, email, phone numbers);
      • Name(s) of proposed UW Chemistry host faculty member(s) (primary required; secondary optional);
    • Curriculum vitae including full list of publications.

Stage 2: Invited candidates complete full Dalton Fellowship application

Following a review of the materials provided in Stage 1, selected candidates will be invited to submit a full application. The required materials for this stage include the following:

  • A description of the research to be conducted at the University of Washington. This description should not exceed two letter-sized pages (with a minimum of 1” page margins and 11-point font).
  • Full contact information for two additional references other than the nominator.
  • Arrange for supporting letters from your two additional references to be submitted. It is the nominee’s responsibility to make sure that all letters are submitted by the requested deadline.

When selected to move forward, those invited to complete a full application will receive instructions regarding the process for submitting secondary materials.
