2021 Season Recap

Friends and families:
We just finished our 2021 CWPA competitive season, and it was a one for the books. At the beginning, the officers didn’t know what to expect because the club had not been active due to Covid-19 last year. When all of a sudden 20 players showed up at the first meeting, we were so excited to jump back into the water. However, our old pool is closed and forced us to find another pool to practice at, and when we finally found one, they told us we needed insurance before the start of the season, we felt the time pressure and went straight to work. Luckily, American Water Polo came in clutch to provide us a short term coverage so we could finally start practicing.
Renting another pool cost money, with the help of donors (cannot thank you enough) and a small budget, we were able to buy us a total of 4 practices in October. It was not a lot, but the team definitely made the most of them. Big shoutout to our players this year, both new comers and old heads.
We competed in 2 tournaments (Eugene + Corvallis), the games were a good mix of fun and challenging. Going against teams that practice 3 times a week we had no fear, our team is skilled and strong, as we beat every team except for one. We were quick to adapt and versatile in our play styles. The guys had no problem learning on the spot, and we supported each other because we had a winning mentality. Shout out to everyone who came to watch, and especially Doc for being the backbone of the team.
The future is looking good, with half of the team being underclassmen, and they are directly responsible for the 5-2 record this year.
In a nutshell, it was a great season: we had dubs and losses, smiles and tears, great shots and bad shots. There’s more to be done, and we are committed to become a better team next year.
Thank you and stay tuned.
