Fellow Expectations
Below are the expectations all fellows must keep to:
Administrative Duties
Work Hours

- Work hours are to be submitted to MedHub at the end of every week (https://uw.medhub.com)
- If you forget to submit work hours for the previous week, you will still have access to submit them the following week.
- If you still forget to submit them, you will be locked out from entering work hours for that missed week and will be considered non-compliant.
- You will have an Outlook calendar reminder to submit work hours every Friday
Evaluations
Fellows are responsible for filling out the following evaluation forms:

- ACGME Fellow Survey (1x/year)
- ACGME Wellness Survey (1x/year)
- Fellow Applicant Evaluations (1x/year via Google Forms)

Time Away

Vacation Time
- You must submit requested vacation days at least 90 days out, especially if the vacation day lands on a continuity clinic day (Thursday).
- If the vacation day is not on a continuity clinic day, then the vacation day can be requested less than 90 days.
- Fellows are responsible for coordinating Epic In Basket coverage and On-Call switches (if vacation day is during On-Call week)

Sick Time
- Fellows must email NDV Sick Call, Trina, and Emily as soon as you know you’re going to be out
- Fellows must also notify attending on-call if you’re scheduled for on-call

Fellows are expected to attend the following recurring meetings in office:

Virtual Meetings
Fellows are expected to attend the following meetings either virtually or in office:

- Combined DBP/RHB Research Seminar (2nd Tuesdays 430pm)

Teaching
-
Developmental Medicine Rounds
Fellows must present at Developmental Rounds once every six month period (twice every academic year). First year fellows must present one topic during the second half of their first year (Jan-June). Fellows must present on:

- Topic of their choosing
- Research project updates

Fellow Foundations
2nd and 3rd year fellows must present twice during fellow foundations. Format can be either Monday in person only, Thursday virtual only, or combination of both.

Resident Check-In + Guided Learning Session
2nd and 3rd year fellows are expected to provide teachings to interns and med students on a bi-weekly basis. Fellows must choose a topic from below and may cover each other if they are unable to do a talk:

- Motor Assessment in a Primary Care Setting
- Speech Assessment in a Primary Care Setting
- Birth to 3 and Special Education Services
- Surveillance Screening Assessments

Resident/Med Student/Observer Pairing
2nd and 3rd year fellows will be paired with residents, med students, and observers. Fellows are expected to provide learners with a fruitful clinical learning experience, even if they choose to have the learner just observe.

Med Student Clerkship Didactic
Every other Friday, interns are expected to teach 3rd year med students on the basics of child development. There are times where there are no interns available to teach or to orient them on how to teach. Fellows will be asked to teach in their place. This didactic session can be via Zoom.
Clinical Expectations
On-Call

Clinical Care Responsibilities
- Each fellow will take 3 weeks of call every six months
-
- First year fellows begin taking call January of their first year
- Fellows will submit their on-call requests to the administrative team as call schedules are being built, switches are possible if needed. Fellows will be included in the email sent out to on-call providers when the schedule is being built.

- Each fellow will take 3 weeks of call every six months
-
- Fellows will be expected to take first call on all incoming pages during the call week.
- Fellows will be expected to have their pagers on 24 hours per day during each of their call weeks
- Fellows will be expected to monitor their Epic Inbox at least once per day during the call week for interim care requests coming from nursing and MA staff (such as medication refills or other orders). Fellows should address these requests (and sign off on them when appropriate) and cc their on-call attending when doing the Epic Inbox work (all med requests, refills etc…).

- Fellows CANNOT sign off on Durable Medical Equipment or Nutrition orders, those must be signed by an attending.
- Nursing/MA team-if an order/communication is urgent and cannot wait until the next business day, please page the fellow on call

- For any patient that has an MRN through Seattle Children’s Hospital, Fellows are expected to document the calls that come in during off hours in Epic as a telephone encounter and forward the documentation for co-sign by the attending.
- Fellows are responsible for responding to pages that come in on the same day of the page, and staff with attending on that day.
- Fellows will email next on call provider (or call if there is a complex sign-out) Tuesday Evening before the next provider comes on call.

Fellow-Faculty Communication
- On the Monday before call starts, (call begins 8AM Wednesday and ends 8AM the following Wednesday), Fellows will email the on-call attending they are going to work with and discuss communication for the call week. For example:

- Does the attending prefer phone, page, or text
- Does the attending want the fellow to call them for every page or prefer to staff once per day (It is encouraged that first-year fellows connect with their attending after every call to discuss and make recommendations)

- On the Monday before call starts, (call begins 8AM Wednesday and ends 8AM the following Wednesday), Fellows will email the on-call attending they are going to work with and discuss communication for the call week. For example:

- It is encouraged that Fellows communicate their learning goals for the call week, and to proactively seek feedback based on their learning goals.
- Fellows should feel free to contact the attending provider at any time they need assistance.
