Medical Student Expectations/Exceptions

Guided Learning Sessions

Depending on your rotation dates, you may not be able to attend all of the guided learning sessions. You only will need to attend and fill out the speaker evaluations on the guided learning sessions that align with your rotation dates.

Clinic Pairings

With your level of learning as a med student, you are not expected to take lead on a patient or fill out a clinic note. Filling the clinic note is optional for your own learning and practice. You are welcome to fill one out and send to your paired provider for feedback, but we are not expecting you to.

Clinic experiences are provider dependent on how involved they want you to be in the visit. Some providers want you to only observe while others will let you take lead (again you are not required to take lead). Some may ask you to fill out a clinic note while others may not.

Because clinic experiences are provider dependent, go into the clinic visit expecting the provider to ask you to lead or write up a clinic note. If they do not ask you to then you do not have to do it unless you want to for practice (again optional).

Medical Student Clerkship Didactic Session

In order to participate in the Clerkship Didactic (Teach) Session, you need to attend the Clerkship Orientation (Learn) Session. If you miss or don’t attend the learn session, then you do not have to participate in the teach Session.

R2/R3 Resident Exceptions

Online Curriculum + Keystones of Development

If you are doing a repeat elective (i.e. have already done a development rotation as an intern or MS4), then you do not have to do the online curriculum unless you would like a review.

Medical Student Clerkship Didactic Session

In order to participate in the Med Student Clerkship Didactic Session, you will need to attend the Clerkship Orientation/Learn Session. Depending on when your rotation starts and when the learn session is, you may not participate in this activity. If this is something you would like to participate in, reach out to your co-residents on development rotation to figure out what role you can have during the teaching session.

Case Presentation @DBP Rounds

Case presentations are required for interns to present on their 4th week of development rotation. However, if there ever is a situation where 1) all interns are unavailable to present (ex: in continuity clinic, vacation) and 2) their 4th week of rotation lands with your 3rd or 4th week of rotation, you may be asked to do a case presentation. You will be notified at the start of your rotation if you need to present.
