Getting Started: Eligibility and Screening

In order to be eligible to receive services at our clinic clients must:

  • Be 13 years or older
  • Live in Washington State
  • Be willing to commit to attending group skills training for 6 months
  • Be vaccinated for COVID-19, if attending in-person
  • Be willing to attend both DBT skills group and individual therapy.
    • Clients receiving comprehensive DBT with us will receive both individual therapy and DBT skills training through our clinic. Many of our clients come to us for DBT skills training, only. In this case, we require that you have an individual therapist outside of our clinic, who is willing to support you through the 6 months of skills training. Clients who do not have an individual therapist will not be admitted to our DBT skills groups.

If you do not meet these eligibility criteria, we would be happy to provide you with alternative referrals.

The first step to being seen within our clinic is to contact our intake coordinator to schedule a phone screen. Please note that we only conduct phone screens when there are openings in the near future for the service(s) that you are seeking. If there are no current openings, you will be provided with a list of other DBT referrals in the area to aid in your search for treatment.

Phone screens are conducted by our student therapists, free of charge. Phone screens take between 45 minutes and 1 hour. During this time, you will be asked about your mental health history, what is prompting you to come in for DBT at this time, and your goals and hopes for treatment.

After this, our DBT Team will review your screen and make a recommendation for your treatment. This may include offering you a spot in our clinic or making an alternative recommendation. You can expect to hear back approximately one week following your phone screen interview.
