The rumors are true, DCM will be transitioning from the use of Clidox disinfectant to Peroxigard disinfectant in all their facilities over the next several months.
This change is being made as the hydrogen peroxide-based Peroxigard product has fewer human health concerns (especially following eye exposure) than the bleach-based Clidox product. It is also significantly less corrosive (e.g., ok to use with plastics/acrylics), while still being highly effective against infectious organisms.
K Wing will be the first facility to make the change in January 2025.
On the date this process is implemented in each facility, which will be communicated to all facility users, DCM will replace all Clidox bottles with bottles of Peroxigard and post temporary signage to alert personnel of the change.
Here are few things to keep in mind during each facility’s transition:
It is important that you don’t mix Peroxigard with bleach or bleach products (e.g., Clidox).
If you currently obtain Clidox from a DCM vivarium for use with animal caging in a lab-managed space, coordinate with the DCM Facility Supervisor to replace the Clidox with Peroxigard. Do not bring Clidox into the facility.
