Career
Policy: I work at the International Monetary Fund in the Monetary and Capital Markets Department and in the Research Department. I was Assistant Vice President at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, where I founded and led the Time Series Analysis Team. I have been consulting and training at several international policy institutions, including the European Commission, the Norges Bank, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, the National Bank of Belgium, the Swiss National Bank, Banque de France, Banco Central do Brasil, Banco Central de la República Argentina, the State Bank of Vietnam. I was a CEPR Business Cycle Dating Committee member, an economist at the Monetary Policy Research Division of the European Central Bank, and the scientific coordinator of the Euro Area Business Cycle Network.
Tech Industry: I worked in the Tech sector as a Senior Principal Economist at Amazon.com, focusing on forecasting and understanding Amazon’s aggregate demand with dynamic machine-learning methods. I introduced Nowcasting in Economics and founded Now-casting.com, a start-up delivering high-frequency, short-term forecasts for the world’s major economies in real time. Clients include some of the world’s most successful macro hedge funds and large international asset management companies.
Academia: I am an Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington. While working at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, I was a Visiting Lecturer at Columbia University and Harvard University. From 2009 and 2014, I was a Professor of Economics at the Université libre de Bruxelles and Director of the European Center for Advanced Research in Economics and Statistics. I also taught at the London Business School, the Graduate Institute of Geneva, and the LUISS University of Rome.
