Department of Surgery Diversity Council

Anti-Racism Workgroup

Prior to the murder of George Floyd, the Department of Surgery we developed a Diversity Council comprised of faculty, residents, and staff. After the murder of George Floyd, administrative leadership realized that structural and institutional racism existed in policies, processes, and practices specific to staff. This workgroup was developed to address the inequities in policies and processes, as well as to develop education and resources for staff but in alignment with the department-wide Diversity Council. Over a year into the work and some progress is being made. We want to share our structure, our successes and works in progress projects, and how your department could consider having a workgroup for staff.

PURPOSE

The Department of Surgery Antiracism Workgroup hand-selected resources for independently learning on various Anti-Racism topics. They have been grouped by topic and media type to help with navigation. We hope you find the information presented engaging and informative.
