Project EMAR is buzzing with the new virtual reality game design team this quarter.

HCDE graduate and undergraduate students are contributing to the project and the Ballard High School VR Club is providing teen input as the robot game building takes shape. The goal is to design and develop a virtual reality game called “Bot Designer.” In the game, teens will collaborate together to design a robot to help reduce stress.

We thought the best way to prototype our virtual reality game would be to start with a card game with the various choices and activities and customizations that will eventually occur in the VR environment.

The team has developed environmental and robot design cards, then played the game with various high school clubs. Capstone graduate students, Aastha Malhotra and Lauren Hirt are promoting user experience design and process activities while Kenji Goodson, Yi Tang, and Kotoko Yamada are developing the VR environment in Unity.
