Project EMAR: Testing and Iteration is Underway!
Field testing the videos
In the last few weeks, the teams worked very hard to prepare the videos and website for testing and feedback. The first testing session was with the Math Science Leadership Program (MSL) at the University of Tacoma. The mission of the MSL Program is to encourage, motivate, and inspire students in grades 7-12 to succeed in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) and develop the leadership and academic skills necessary to pursue a career in STEM fields. A small group from the Project EMAR Directed Research Group presented the videos to the teens at the University of Tacoma to gather their feedback. The students viewed five videos:
- What is Human-Centered Design?
- Research
- Ideation
- Prototyping
- Testing
After each video, the teens were asked to rate likes and dislikes about the videos and make comments to help us learn from them. Teens were also invited to verbally share their impressions. The group was very lively and helpful in giving us lots of specific feedback and ideas for iteration.
Usability testing of the website
Over the Thanksgiving break, all of the teams performed usability testing for the website with teens, parents, and teachers. Our goal is to revise the website based on the feedback to make sure the design is easy to use and effective in communicating the details about the upcoming High School Design Challenge. Data and insights were collected as individuals navigated through the new website. Then user feedback was used for further iteration by the Web Team.
It’s hard to believe the Autumn Quarter is coming to a close so soon! The teams will be in full gear iterating and preparing to launch the final versions of the website and videos.
