Project EMAR: Wrapping up the Autumn 2017 Quarter!
What a productive quarter it has been! So many students doing such great work toward our Social Robot Design Challenge and the new iteration of EMAR. See more details below.
Voiceovers for the Design Challenge videos
Design Challenge Team Video went to Odegaard Library Sound Studio, on the UW campus, to record the new voiceovers for the Design Challenge videos. The team used the feedback from the MSL teens to make changes and final edits to the videos.
Website Goes Live
The Web Team worked very hard to make the final edits based on our findings from the usability studies conducted by the group. The website is for the high school students that will be participating in the Design Challenge next quarter.
You can see our hard work by checking out the Social Robot Design Challenge website and the videos about Human-Centered Design on the website.
Our Final Meeting
On our last meeting of the quarter, Emma Rose (co-PI) led a pizza lunch with Elin Bjӧrling (PI) and Ada Kim (Graduate Research Assistant) to reflect on Fall quarter progress and learning. We shared “wows and wonders” from the quarter as well as kudos for all of the hard work by students.
V4 gets festive!
Maya Cakmak (Co-PI) and Alisa Kalegina (CSE Graduate Research Assistant) worked hard over the quarter to create a customizable tablet face for version 4 of EMAR. They also tried a rounded, fuzzy, foam embodiment. Field tests with teens next quarter will help us to learn how teens perceive this form factor as well as how they prefer to customize the face.
A final shout out!
To all the students (grad and undergrad) as well as all the families and teens who helped to make this quarter possible. We’re excited for all the fun projects happening next quarter including the Social Robot Design Challenge, the design of a VR Robot Designer game, and field testing of the new iterations of EMAR. Stay tuned!
