Ballard High School Joins Social Robot Design Challenge

Rounding out the three Seattle high schools participating in the Social Robot Design Challenge is Ballard High School. Ballard is the oldest high school in Seattle and is known nationally for its award winning film, music, and robotics programs.

Design Challenge: Check Out What’s Happening at Roosevelt High!

Roosevelt High School opened 96 years ago in 1922 and is part of the Seattle Public Schools with over 1650 students. The school is named after President Theodore Roosevelt (1858–1919). The school’s team, the Rough Riders, is named after Roosevelt’s famous military regiment.

Piloting the Design Challenge: A Visit to iDEA High School

This week we visited iDEA High School in Tacoma to run a mini design challenge with students to build robot prototypes. The visit allowed us to share our knowledge about human centered design with teens and also pilot the materials for the Social Robot Design Challenge.

Project EMAR: Exciting New Virtual Reality Game Design Team!

HCDE graduate and undergraduate students are contributing to the project and the Ballard High School VR Club is providing teen input as the robot game building takes shape. The goal is to design and develop a virtual reality game called “Bot Designer.” In the game, teens will collaborate together to design a robot to help reduce stress.
