Blog Contributions
Interested in contributing to Compendium? This space is always meant to be communally driven, and our call is always open. Further details are included on the below CFP.
Compendium CFP Winter 2022
The Expository Writing Program and the CIC invites submissions for publication on the Compendium Blog that was launched Autumn Quarter 2021. As part of the blog’s ongoing mission, we prioritize proposals that support antiracist, anti-colonial, and equity-oriented teaching practices; explore issues of accessibility within and beyond the classroom; center public and community-engaged approaches to teaching and/or address wellbeing, mental health, and complexities of teaching and learning in this moment.
Compendium is accepting submissions for two primary content categories:
“In the Classroom”
-
“In the Classroom” content should generate concrete and equity-focused teaching artifacts that other instructors can adapt and repurpose.
-
We encourage submissions that feature framed classroom activities, lesson plans, and other teaching materials that address the diverse needs of our students.
-
To make sure that teaching artifacts are easily transferable to other courses, we ask that your framing include:
-
General context and pedagogical goals of the material;
-
Prompting questions to encourage instructors to consider what changes will need to be made when transfering materials into their own contexts, for both in-person and online instruction.
-
“Research | Publications”
-
“Research and Publications” content should showcase or summarize instructor work in decolonial, antiracist, translingual, transnational, and/or accessible approaches to critical writing pedagogy.
-
Submissions might include descriptions of conference papers, outward or public-facing reflections from pedagogy-centric courses, or highlights from recently published work with takeaways for EWP instructors.
-
We encourage submissions to include thoughts for how EWP instructors can access the full publication (if applicable), and opportunities for instructors to further engage with the topic.
While most posts are centered on writing praxis, we welcome all content that supports our teaching community both on and off campus, encourages collaboration, and nurtures professional growth. Be aware that submissions, if accepted, may be saved or adjusted for a later posting schedule.
Compendium posts are typically 500-1000 words in length, should include any cited sources or recommendations for further reading where applicable, and should indicate applicable content category (“In the Classroom” vs “Research | Publication”) and tags (eg “peer review,” “masked classroom,” “antiracist praxis,” etc.).
How To Submit
Submissions can be sent to Jake <jhuebsch@uw.edu>.
For questions, email either Jake <jhuebsch@uw.edu> or Alycia <amgilb@uw.edu>, and please spread the word!
Teacher Talks: Open Call for Proposals
Teacher Talk is a pedagogy workshop and conversation series that seeks to provide a space for graduate instructors, faculty, and staff to share innovative and equitable practices, discuss praxis, and build a supportive teaching community. Housed in the Expository Writing Program (EWP) as part of the Critical Classroom Series, Teacher Talk hosts interactive events that run 60-90 minutes, including guided discussions, panels, break-out sessions, roundtables, workshops, and resource sharing. Workshop facilitators will receive modest stipends. For more information, please see the Dept. of English website.
The Teacher Talk CFP can be found here.
