Italian director Luca Guadagnino has been on a hot streak these past couple of years, releasing film after film met with critical and audience acclaim. After 2022’s romance horror Bones and All, and then releasing the sports romance Challengers and his more experimental period romance Queer back-to-back last year, many had high hopes for After the Hunt. In what we anticipated to be a tense psychological thriller, Guadagnino’s latest entry feels like a bit of a letdown. What begins as an exciting and tense story loses steam as the film chugs along, yielding a perfectly ordinary and mildly forgettable film.
