Before you come to UW, go to Rome!
Travel Writing in the Eternal City
Applications for the 2024 program are now closed.
Whether you’re going on a study abroad trip, preparing for international internships, independent travel, or just imagining the places you will visit, this course will provide you with writing strategies for recording what your camera can’t capture, nor what your brief entry on social media can’t capture. It will also be an opportunity to meet other incoming UW students prior to the start of the school year. This program will provide you with a foundation for your university career and a chance to take a college course and earn credit before school begins.
This program will first convene in Rome for two weeks prior to the start of school and then we will meet weekly on campus for the duration of autumn quarter.
Please note that due to the minimum age requirement of the housing in Rome, students must be 18 at the time of the program to participate.
Are you a first year transfer student? Consider applying to the Rome in Residence program.

Imagine walking past the Pantheon on your way to class, stopping for a cappuccino, and walking up a marble stairwell to your classroom in a 15th century palazzo built on the foundations of a Roman temple to Venus.
