UW Postdoctoral Training Position

A postdoc position is open at the UW School of Dentistry to work with Dr. Joana Cunha-Cruz on oral health disparities. If you are experienced or wants to gain experience in qualitative or quantitative research, implementation sciences, behavioral sciences, public health, epidemiology, or evidence-based practice and methods, this position may be for you!

You do NOT need to be a dentist to apply!

You have to be a US citizen or permanent resident with a doctorate degree in any area with an interest in oral health research.

The trainees of the NIH National Research Service Awards (T-90) are eligible for a stipend based on the annual NIH stipend levels, health insurance, and some travel-related expenses.

Additional Information About the Position

This postdoc position will contribute to a health disparities program within the department of Oral Health Sciences. Research activities center on development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based interventions to improve oral health and decrease health inequities, with a focus on Latinos/Latinas and American Indian/Alaska Natives. Currently projects are a pilot trial in Yakima Valley (Thirsty for a Smile) and a feasibility study in Southeast Alaska (OHEAL).

Thirsty for a Smile will pilot test an intervention where cute water bottles will be delivered to the home of young kids who had surgery for tooth decay and dietitians will counsel parents and caregivers on how to change the home environment to switch from drinking sugary drinks to drinking more water.

OHEALwill test implementation strategies such as establishing goals to achieve population oral health and data monitoring to promote better care delivery by a team of dental therapists and dentists in small Alaska villages.

You will work in several stages of the research process from planning and installing to implementation and evaluation. You will work in partnership with other schools such as School of Public Health and with dental care organizations and community-based organizations.
