ACOR-CAORC: Pre-Doctoral & Post-Doctoral Fellowships

The American Center of Oriental Research (ACOR) offers two or more fellowships for masters and doctoral students as well as two or more fellowships for Post-Doctoral Fellowships for research in Jordan.

For the Pre-Doctoral Fellowships, fields of study include all areas of humanities and the natural and social sciences. Topics should contribute to scholarship in the Middle Eastern studies. For the Post-Doctoral Fellowships, the applicants must pursue research or publication projects in the natural and social sciences, humanities, and associated disciplines related to the Middle East at the time of application.

Both Fellowships will be offered for terms of two to six months. Both must be used between June 15, 2020 and December 31, 2021, and both are residential Fellowships, so residency at ACOR is required. For the Pre-Doctoral Fellowship, the maximum award for six months is $23,800 (which includes room and board at ACOR, transportation by a U.S. carrier, stipend, and research funds). For the Post-Doctoral Fellowship, the maximum award for six months is $32,400 (which includes room and board at ACOR, transportation by a U.S. carrier, and a stipend).

Eligibility

• For the Pre-Doctoral Fellowship, applicants must either be enrolled in a degree program, or be accepted to and planning to enroll in a degree program the next academic year at the time the award is used.
  • For example, if the applicants graduated in May and are planning on using their award after that date, they must be planning on enrolling in another degree program in the fall. Confirmed acceptance to the program is required.
• For the Post-Doctoral Fellowship, applicants must hold the Ph.D. degree, or be scholars or professionals with the equivalent terminal degree in their field.
• For both awards, US citizenship is required.
