TECHIN 516 Robotics Lab 1: Robotic Sensing and Mobility
The interdisciplinary degree program, Master of Science in Technology Innovation (MSTI) is looking for an excellent teaching assistant with an interest in innovation. We are seeking a teaching assistant to support this upcoming Winter Quarter course. This position will average 20 hours per week. The course will meet twice per week for 2 hours per session during Winter Quarter 2022. TAs must attend all classes.
 
This is a four-credit course which will introduce students to robotic design theory, principles, methodologies, and applications by bringing together knowledge from robotics, artificial intelligence, human factors, human-computer interaction design, cognitive psychology, education and other domains. Coursework will include readings and discussions focused on the state-of-the-art in robotics research, focused team design and development exercises working towards a team project comprising both implementation and evaluation of a human-robot interaction system for specific applications.
Responsibilities may include some or all of the following duties: prepare and grade assignments, prepare test questions, proctor and score quizzes or exams, maintain grading records, prepare and maintain course records, calculate quarter grades, request student assessments for course, attend lectures, hold regular office hours, tutor students, manage and respond to course-related e-mail, prepare and maintain Canvas site for course materials, develop and maintain online communications, discussion sites, etc., attend weekly instructor/TA meetings, act as liaison between student and instructor, prepare and present lecture materials, prepare handout materials, review literature, place course materials on library reserve, facilitate discussions, hold extra review sessions for exams, obtain room for review sessions, request or acquire necessary equipment.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience with ROS and Linux environment Demonstrated experience
  • Experience with UW Canvas Learning Management System
  • The applicant must be a current PhD candidate with previous teaching or TA experience Previous grading experience in technical areas desired.
  • Major areas of study: ECE, ME, CSE, data science, HCDE, digital fabrication, design, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with the robot turtlebot3 (physical and simulation)
  • Experience with Fetch and Kinova robotic platforms
  • Enjoy tutoring students and helping students to excel in any of the following areas: Internet of Things (IoT), design, computer science, engineering, ideation, human robot interaction, hardware and/or software development, robotics Python, C, or C++
  • Experience in working with international students
  • Excellent communication, technology, and design skills

Salary is based on Regular Salary Schedule #1 for 50% FTE and tuition waiver (https://grad.uw.edu/wp-content/uploads/2020-21-Variable-TA-SalarySchedule.pdf). The position is eligible for insurance.
