Predoctoral Instructors for Summer Term B School of Environmental and Forest Sciences

Predoctoral Instructor – ESRM 200 – Society and Sustainable Environments

Department: School of Environmental and Forest Sciences (SEFS)
Quarter Available: Summer 2022 B Term 7/16/22–8/15/22

Course Description: Introduces the application of social concepts and theories to understanding and managing urban, urbanizing, and wildland landscapes in a sustainable manner. Of particular interest are factors that shape patterns on the landscape and resulting social and economic benefits. Explores landscapes across the urban to wildland gradient.

Duties and Requirements: The Predoctoral Instructor (PDI) will have full responsibility for teaching the course, including all lectures, lab assignments, exams, grading, creating make-up assignments, and answering student questions. If this reaches the target enrollment, this course will have one Teaching Assistant (TA) and the PDI will supervise this TA to support all aspects of teaching this course. Graduate student applicants must be making satisfactory progress.

Pay: This salaried ASE position is 100% FTE (40 hrs/week) for 1 month, plus a 20% Summer Quarter Supplement. Salary is commensurate with academic standing, per the ASE contract. (The UW/UAW ASE contract provides raises on July 1st so pay for full appointment Candidates will earn $7,166)

Predoctoral Instructor – ESRM 201 – Sustaining Pacific Northwest Ecosystems

Department: School of Environmental and Forest Sciences (SEFS) 
Quarter and Dates: Summer 2022 B Term 7/16/22–8/15/22

Course Description: Introduces the principles of ecology across an urban to wildland gradient and discusses how these landscapes can be sustainably managed. Explores basic ecological theories, plant communities, soil, climate, pollution, hydrology, and wildlife in classroom, labs, and field trips.
