JFK Library Research Fellowships and Grants

Application Deadline: September 30, 2022

  • For researchers at master’s, doctoral, or postdoctoral levels
  • With interests in using the JFK Library’s archival holdings for research
  • Stipends range, $3,100-$5,000
  • Open to researchers with any immigration status or nationality

The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, the nonprofit organization that supports the federal John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, offers research fellowships and grants every year to support scholars who need to use the archival holdings of the JFK Library.

Candidates can apply for only one fellowship per year, but the Fellowship Committee will assess each application with the most relevant fellowship opportunity in mind. This year, there are four fellowships available.

  • Abba Schwartz Fellowship: with a stipend of up to $3100. Research Focus: Immigration, naturalization, or refugee policy, with at least a portion of the project utilizing materials from the JFK Library archives.
  • Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. Fellowship: with a stipend of up to $5000 that can be split among recipients. Research Focus: Foreign policy of the Kennedy administration (especially in the Western Hemisphere); domestic policy of the Kennedy administration (especially with regard to racial justice or natural resources conservation).
  • Marjorie Kovler Research Fellowship: with a stipend of up to $5000. Research Focus: Foreign intelligence and the Presidency (or a related topic).
  • Theodore Sorensen Research Fellowship: with a stipend of up to $3600. Research Focus: Domestic policy, political journalism, polling, press relations, or a related topic.

For all four fellowships, at least a portion of the applicant’s project should utilize materials from the JFK Library archives.
