Sigma Xi Grants-in-Aid of Research Program

Application Deadline (for fall cycle): October 1, 2022

  • For graduate and undergraduate students interested in research
  • Supported research areas include some social sciences and natural sciences
  • Award amounts are up to $1,000 in most areas; $2,500 for vision-related research; and $5,000 for astronomy research

The Sigma Xi Grants in Aid of Research (GIAR) program awards grants of up to $1,000 to students from most areas of the sciences and engineering. Designated funds from the National Academy of Sciences allow for grants of up to $5,000 for astronomy research and $2,500 for vision related research. Students use the funding to pay for travel expenses to and from a research site, or for purchase of non-standard laboratory equipment necessary to complete a specific research project.

Undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in degree seeking programs may apply. Membership in Sigma Xi is not required to apply, but the organization encourages membership prior to the grant application deadline.
