CERSE Graduate Research Assistantship SPR 24

The Center for Evaluation & Research for STEM Equity (CERSE) is seeking 1-2 Graduate Research Assistants to assist with multiple ongoing evaluation and research projects. The projects vary in specific focus related to broadening participation in STEM fields. CERSE conducts research, evaluation, and consulting on diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM. We are a community-oriented team committed to increasing the participation of people from systemically marginalized groups in STEM education and careers. One position will be a one-quarter appointment for Spring 2024 and another possible position will be an hourly position for 10-15 hours per week.*

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience using quantitative and qualitative methodologies to design data collection instruments and collect, manage, and analyze data (e.g., managing and analyzing data in Excel and one or more statistical software programs like R, Stata, and/or SPSS; coding qualitative data in Word, Dedoose, or Atlas.ti; possibly conducting interviews/ observations and/or fielding surveys);
  • The ability to synthesize and integrate information from multiple data sources;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including storytelling/ effectively communicating research results to a wide variety of audiences;
  • Excellent organization skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities;
  • Leadership and strategic problem-solving ability; and
  • A strong commitment to furthering diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Required Qualifications:

  • At the time of applying, applicants must have been admitted to a graduate program at the University of Washington. Preference will be given to applicants from social science related fields. There are no enrollment requirements for summer hourly positions.

*The CERSE is hiring for 1-2 positions, one confirmed position is an assistantship that comes with a tuition waiver, stipend, and benefits as governed by a negotiated labor contract and is subject to union provisions. For more information, please review the UAW Academic Student Employees (ASEs) contract. The other position is hourly pending confirming of funding.
