Graduate Teaching Assistant(s) Spring24- PHIL 118, 120, 149

The Department of Philosophy is seeking one or more graduate students for one-quarter teaching assistant positions in spring 2024 to serve as a Teaching Assistant for PHIL 118 – Persuasion or Manipulation? The Ethics and Psychology of Influence or PHIL 120 – Introduction to Logic or PHIL 149 – Existentialism and Film.
In general, duties will require you to:
- Lead three separate discussion sections (approximately 30-35 students each) of a large lecture course; for PHIL 118 and PHIL 149, each discussion section meets once per week; for PHIL 120, each discussion section meets twice per week
- Attend all main lectures of that course
- Hold two hours of office hours each week
- Respond to student contributions to discussion boards
- For PHIL 118 and 149: grade student assignments
- Be evaluated and given feedback on your teaching performance
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Teaching Assistant/Predoctoral Teaching Associate I/Predoctoral Teaching Associate II (depending on eligibility).
DATES/ HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT: It is expected that you will work no more than 220 hours total (approximately 20 hours per week) during spring quarter (March 25th – June 9, 2024). Note: Grades are due Tuesday, June 11, 2024. The payroll dates for the appointment are from March 16 – June 15, 2024.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Formally enrolled in a UW graduate degree program for at least 10 credits during spring 2024
- Significant background in philosophy, film studies, psychology or logic
DESIRED:
- Previous experience teaching philosophy, film studies, psychology or logic
