Heart and Muscle Mechanics (HAMM) Lab
Dr. Michael Regnier, Lab Director
Research in the HAMM Lab spans from basic science to translational studies. We strive to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate muscle contraction and how dysfunction occurs with disease or damage. This information is used to develop novel approaches to treat muscle disease, such as protein, cell & tissue engineering and gene therapy. Our research is interdisciplinary and studies are performed at multiple scales (protein, contractile filament, cell, tissue, organ levels), using a wide variety of gene & protein engineering, biochemical, biomechanical and computational modeling approaches. Many research projects are done in collaboration with other laboratories at the University of Washington and at other institutions across the US, Canada and Europe.
