HI-NORM CLUSTER
Programs
The HI-NORM Cluster promotes various cooperations:
Initiatives
Faculty, students, community members, and partners at UW are brought together in a series of initiatives promoted by the cluster:
- Research Collaboration: Our program is a good example of research collaboration, involving faculty from three UW campuses and partners from universities in the United States, Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
- Faculty Exchanges: Our activities also have an exchange component, related primarily to the Exzellenzcluster on “Normative Orders” at the University of Frankfurt, which has hosted UW faculty at their university. Conversely, the UW has invited faculty from Frankfurt and other universities to Seattle, Tacoma, and Bothell.
- Lectures by Distinguished Scholars: The research cluster includes the participation of distinguished scholars working on human rights and cosmopolitanism, who have been visiting UW and given lectures and seminars on a yearly basis.
- Reading Groups, Courses, and Seminars: The activities of the HI-NORM cluster include reading groups, meetings among UW faculty, courses, guest lectures.
- Study-Abroad Program: The cluster has supported an innovative study-abroad program in Frankfurt, Germany as well as in Brazil. These programs involve faculty and students.
- Events and Conferences: The work of the HI-NORM Cluster culminates with an international conference every year, held at either the University of Washington in Seattle or at the Goethe University in Frankfurt.
Activities
The HI-NORM Cluster has promoted various activities since 2009. All cluster activities involve the work of UW faculty who focus their teaching, research, and service on the concepts of “human rights” and “cosmopolitanism” as two of the most important normative innovations of modern times.
