Viral’s GRL paper on organic aerosol was picked as an editor’s choice in Science!
Viral Shah’s GRL paper “Widespread Pollution from Secondary Sources of Organic Aerosols during Winter in the Northeastern United States” was highlighted in Science as an Editor’s choice.
GRL paper on widespread pollution from secondary sources of organic aerosols published
Viral Shah’s paper on “Widespread Pollution From Secondary Sources of Organic Aerosols During Winter in the Northeastern United States” is published in GRL. We made aircraft‐based observations of organic aerosols over the NE US during winter and observed that a majority of organic aerosols consist of secondary organic aerosols from gases emitted from pollution sources. Paper on blowing snow & CALIOP satellite observations published
Our paper on “Using CALIOP to constrain blowing snow emissions of sea salt aerosols over Arctic and Antarctic sea ice” by Huang, J., Jaeglé, L., and Shah, V. is now published in Atmos. Chem. Phys., 18, 16253-16269 (https://doi.org/10.5194/acp-18-16253-2018)
Congrats to Jiayue on her successful PhD defense!
Jiayue Huang successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis entitled “Sea ice sources of sea salt aerosols in polar regions” on November 9, 2018!
GeoSpace highlights WINTER study of Lee et al. on bromine in power plant exhaust
The AGU blog GeoSpace highlights the work of Ben Lee on unexpectedly high levels of reactive bromine-containing chemicals in plumes emitted by some coal-fired power plants. Check it out here: https://blogs.agu.org/geospace/2018/10/26/study-finds-unexpected-levels-of-bromine-in-power-plant-exhaust/
WINTER NOx paper published in JGR
Our paper “Nitrogen oxides emissions, chemistry, deposition, and export over the Northeast United States during the WINTER aircraft campaign” is published in the Journal of Geophysical Research.
Press release: Study shows why eastern U.S. air pollution levels are more stagnant in winter
UW distributed a press release and video on our PNAS paper.
PNAS paper on sulfate and nitrate in the eastern US
Our paper “Chemical Feedbacks weaken the wintertime response of particulate sulfate and nitrate to emissions reductions over the eastern United States” by Viral Shah, Lyatt Jaeglé, and co-authors was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences!
Congratulations to Viral Shah on his successful PhD defense!
Congrats to Viral Shah on defending his PhD thesis “Sources, Chemistry, and transport of urban aerosols and oxidized mercury: An analysis combining aircraft and surface observations with a chemical transport model”. Viral will be doing a postdoc at Harvard with Prof. Daniel Jacob.
