BioE PhD Student

Susy (she/her) earned a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from The University of Texas in Austin, Texas. She is co-advised by Dr. Robinson and Dr. Ron Kwon in the Musculoskeletal Systems Biology Lab. Her previous research experiences include exploring the suitability of temperature-sensitive nanoparticles for the delivery of osteoinductive factors and investigating the role of microenvironmental factors, such as hydrogel mechanics and in situ regenerative cues, in provoking a regenerative response from engineered human liver tissues. She is currently seeking to combine the strengths of exploration-oriented genetics studies in zebrafish and translation-focused in vitro studies with patient tissues to answer questions related to meniscal tissue growth and regeneration in homeostasis and disease.

Susy loves to be cozy at home with her partner Gaby and their cat Poki, where the three of them cook delicious meals, laugh at jokes on the internet, and watch women’s soccer (always rooting for Seattle’s own OL Reign!). Susy also loves to explore Seattle and surrounding areas in search of snowcones and Tex-Mex cuisine.

Susy’s favorite piece of lab glassware is a 100mL glass bottle, because it’s the perfect size for cradling in two hands and won’t spill if she needs to hold many supplies at the same time.
