2021 Objectives

Symposium presentations are designed for an audience comprised of researchers, educators, clinicians, and graduate students in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation. Participants at this event will include residents and practicing physicians in physical medicine and rehabilitation; practicing clinicians in the fields of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and prosthetics and orthotics; clinical trainees in the Divisions of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Prosthetics and Orthotics; doctoral students in the PhD in Rehabilitation Science program; and University of Washington School of Medicine faculty members.

At the end of this Symposium, participants will be able to discuss the following:

  • The impact of health disparities on individuals from under-represented groups and those with disabilities.
  • The role of racial inequities and provider bias on health of individuals in the context of conditions such as HIV, cancer, and COVID-19.
  • The role of accessible and inclusive health systems for patients and providers with disabilities.
  • The next steps to address health disparities in our respective professional practices as well as part of the interdisciplinary team.
