WWAMI Track Program

**Track applications for the 2021-2022 academic year are now closed**

Due to the uncertainty of availability in the 2021-2022 Academic Year because of COVID-19, accepted Track students will not be guaranteed a full 24 weeks in Patient Care or 12 weeks in Explore & Focus.  SOM will do its best to ensure students can spend as close to 24 or 12 weeks respectively in their Track site, but please be aware it will likely be less.

The WWAMI Track program allows a select group of students to be registered for a certain number of weeks (24 weeks for the Patient Care Phase, and 12 weeks for the Explore & Focus Phase**— time not guaranteed for 21-22 academic year, see NOTE below) at a specific city or area throughout the WWAMI region. Clerkships at Track site may not be consecutive.  Medical students must participate in an application process for each phase, whereby selected students are matched to Track sites to fulfill their Patient Care or Explore & Focus required clerkships.

Students that do not complete the requirements of a Track due to an expansion or leave of absence will be required to re-apply during the next application cycle if they wish to continue in Track.

WWAMI Track space is limited. Admission to a Track is for the academic year to which a student applied.

Note: If you are considering applying to an Emergency Medicine residency program you must take MED EM 606 for your required EM rotation at HMC/UWMC in Seattle, and therefore should not apply for an Explore & Focus Track, since your EM rotation has to be scheduled at your Track site. For additional details, please contact the Department of  Emergency Medicine.

Requirements:

Patient Care Phase Track students are registered for a minimum 24 weeks (24 weeks not guaranteed for the 21-22 academic year, see NOTE below)** of required clerkships at their track location. Please note the time in your track location may not be consecutive.

 Requirements:

Explore & Focus Phase Track students are registered for a minimum of 12 weeks (12 weeks not guaranteed for the 21-22 academic year, see NOTE below)** of clerkships within their Track location.  The time in Track must be comprised of Required Emergency Medicine, Required Neurology, and one 4-week non-permission elective or APC (dependent on availability). The time in your Track site will likely be non-consecutive.

*Notes About Sites:

  • Idaho is a statewide Track so you can expect to take at least one clerkship outside of the Boise/Treasure Valley area.
  • Montana-Bozeman– Bozeman Track may include Helena sites.

**NOTE ABOUT TIME AT TRACK SITE: DUE TO THE UNCERTAINTY OF AVAILABILITY IN THE 2021-2022 ACADEMIC YEAR DUE TO COVID-19, STUDENTS ARE NOT GUARANTEED THE FULL 24 WEEKS (PATIENT CARE) OR 12 WEEKS (EXPLORE & FOCUS) AT THEIR TRACK SITE.
