Overview of Trainings

Our Autism-Ready Libraries professional development modules are designed to empower youth-serving librarians with foundational knowledge to provide autism-inclusive services for families with autistic children. These trainings address the basics of autism acceptance and inclusion, customer services practices for families with autistic children, and how to provide autism-inclusive early literacy services and programs.

These training modules are specific to the public library context, and can be used by anyone with an interest in autism inclusion and inclusive literacy practices:

    • If you are a youth-serving librarian in a public library, all of these professional development modules can help you make incremental but meaningful changes to your early literacy services and programs. We suggest starting with the Autism Acceptance and Inclusion training, followed by Customer Services, and finally our Autism-Inclusive Early Literacy training.
    • If you are a library associate, the Autism Acceptance and Inclusion training and our Customer Services trainings can help you provide inclusive and adaptive information services for families with autistic children.
    • If you are a library administrator or manager, our Autism Acceptance and Inclusion training can help you identify high level system-wide changes that may be made for inclusion.
    • If you are a parent or caregiver, our Autism-Inclusive Early Literacy Services training module can help you learn new tips and tricks for supporting your autistic child’s early literacy development.
