Join the lab

Join bi-weekly lab meetings (during the academic year):

The NLL lab meetings are held bi-weekly during the academic year. Current UW graduate students as well as undergraduate students are all welcome to join. We expect to resume back to in-person lab meetings in Autumn 2021. You can sign up for our mailing list here to receive updates on meeting time and upcoming topics.

If you are not affiliated with UW Linguistics but would like to join our lab meetings as well, please email us at nllab{at}uw.edu.

Prospective graduate students:

Dr. Qi Cheng is currently accepting Ph.D. students. Prospective students are welcomed to contact her at qicheng2{at}uw.edu to discuss their applications. When emailing, please add ‘prospective student’ in the email subject line and attach a recent CV and a brief description of their research interests. To apply to the UW Linguistics Ph.D. program, please refer to information here.

Undergraduate students:

We often have research opportunities for undergraduate students who are interested in psycho/neurolinguistic research. Ideally you’ll need to have intermediate ASL proficiency (have taken ASL 203 or equivalent), but some projects might not require ASL proficiency. You will receive course credit in Linguistics (LING 499; 1 credit = 3 hrs/week). We ask you to sign up for a minimum of 2 credits (6 hrs/week) per quarter. You will receive training in conducting human research, get to learn more about Deaf culture and ASL, attend our bi-weekly lab meetings, and get exposure to research in psycho/neurolinguistics and language development. If you are interested in joining the lab as an undergraduate RA, please email lab director Dr. Qi Cheng (qicheng2{at}uw.edu). You can also find existing linguistics research opportunities here.
