Olivia Bermingham-McDonogh was born and raised in Ireland receiving her BSc in
honors Chemistry from University College Dublin (UCD). She then obtained a PhD in
Biochemistry from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), followed by a
post-doctoral position at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). After her
training she joined a biotech company in Cambridge MA, Cambridge NeuroScience
Inc. (CNSI) that specialized in developing therapeutics for neurodegenerative
diseases. After 5 years with CNSI she relocated to Seattle Washington and began an
academic career at the University of Washington School of Medicine. It is at this
juncture that she became interested in regeneration of sensory cells in the inner ear.
She is currently a Professor in the Department of Biological Structure and pursues
research on both the development and the regeneration of inner ear sensory cells.
When not engaged in scientific research or academic endeavors she enjoys hiking,
skiing, snowshoeing, reading and hanging out with family and friends.
